Homegrown brand Ghuri by Debjani makes a comeback after a one-and-a-half-year hiatus with its new collection that weaves in nostalgia and the vibrancy of spring. The city designer who is known for her prints has experimented with jamdani on Bangalore silk and has launched beautiful saris and summer dresses. “It’s been almost a gap of one-and-half years since I am launching my collection. Being away from creating anything for Ghuri was like staying away from my child. But I was helpless at that time, going through clinical depression and personal loss that resulted from an accident that led to my elbow replacement surgery,” said Debjani Ray Chaudhuri who took the route of spirituality and bounced back to create a new collection, channelising her creative skills.
Talking about her collection, Debjani said, “The new collection has both prints and jamdanis. While prints have Tintin, Harry Potter and shayaris as wearable artworks, the jamdani collection is mostly on silk in an unusual colour palette. Also, this time we experimented with jamdani on Bangalore silk and launched our line of anti-fits and summer dresses with our old prints. I thank my partner Aditya Vikram Ojha for all the support.” The brand has plans of making a men’s range with the new prints.
