What happens when 10 people are in a video frame? The smartphone starts working harder to find the correct focus and often, it requires a number of attempts to come up with the perfect output. All this might change with Samsung’s Galaxy S22 series, the new flagship phone series which will go on into pre-booking mode from February 23.

What is auto framing?

The new Samsung flagship phones will be able to detect people within five metres and can track up to 10 people, in order to have subjects in one frame. So it gives you the power to make your videos more dynamic than ever before.

You can also adjust the auto framing and tracking shot to suit any situation. With the feature, the position of the subject is automatically determined and then AI gets into action, telling the camera to change the framing based on the position of the subject. For example, if you’re recording a video with a human subject, the camera will zoom in or out to keep the person in the frame.

In case the subject is slightly away from the camera, the snapper will zoom in and then shift focus. The overall feel of the video should also change automatically. At the moment, phone cameras optimise scenes — colours, saturation, contrast and so on — based on the type of shot you are taking; the science is getting an improvement.

According to the company, advanced auto framing can detect up to 10 subjects and optimise the focus and framing accordingly. It will help most of us who like to point and shoot.

Other big updates and features that are coming include super steady system, advanced OIS, Nightography, Adaptive Pixel, advance portrait mode and AI Stereo Dept map. Professional photographers will be able to get more out of shots taken on the new Galaxy S22 Ultra using the Expert RAW app.
