Chase away ‘bhashan’ blues on Dashami

Chelo Kebab from Peter Cat: Neither this dish nor this Park Street restaurant need an introduction. Here’s a fun fact: Not long after Nitin Kothari opened Peter Cat in 1975, this particular dish started dominating. Traditionally, kebabs are eaten with naan in north India but it was served with rice in Kolkata and a fried egg was thrown in, too. And that’s how the Chelo Kebab came about!

Blackened Fish from Chili’s: Rich fatty salmon covered in a chipotle spice rub and served with rice and veggies will, without a doubt, make you feel warm and fuzzy inside. Try this dish at the Quest Mall or South City outlets and switch the salmon for bass if you prefer flaky white fish.

Roast Pork from Wise Owl Steakhouse: The amount of pork fat in this dish will make you giddy, but once you taste it, you wouldn’t mind a second helping. It comes with a side of mashed potatoes and sauteed veggies at the Purna Das Road outlet.

Mutton Biryani from Aminia: We saved the best for the last in our Durga Puja food itinerary. Make a pit stop at this family-run brand from Kolkata in New Market, Golpark and other outlets. While you’re there, indulge in a plate of Mutton Pasinda Kebab. (If you’re partial to other biryani brands like Arsalan, Royal Indian Hotel or Shiraz, there’s that too!)
