Sorano

This contemporary dining space on Ho Chi Minh Sarani, off Kolkata’s restaurant hub Park Street, is complemented by the simplicity and freshness of Italian cuisine. Drawing inspiration from traditional Italian homes, the restaurant has high ceilings and raw finishes, all of which elevates the rich colonial structure of the building. A large mosaic clad wood-fired oven serves pizzas with exotic toppings and fresh cheeses that are made in-house. Don’t miss the Boards and Burrata sections on the menu! Owned by Saket and Nivedita Agarwal (the duo behind Casa Toscana back in the day), the restaurant also makes its own pasta, which has the perfect al dente bite every time. Sorano makes a smooth transition from fine-dining to semi-casual as night falls.

Location: 1st Floor, Harrington Mansion, 8, Ho Chi Minh Sarani, Kankaria Estate (opposite the US consulate general)

It is housed inside Taj City Centre, the 147-room star property by IHCL and Ambuja Neotia Group. The 124-cover restaurant is dressed up in shades of beige and blue and washed with natural light from the skylight roof. It serves up a buffet and a la carte menu featuring ‘travelling Shamiana’ items. Try their craft burgers, international grills and Bengali delicacies, world cuisine and chef’s special desserts. “Our signature items include Asparagus Roesti, Orecchiette Pasta, Blackened Salmon and Kosha Mangsho with Dhakai Porota,” shares executive chef Subrata Debnath.
