The outer facade reminds us of the old-world charm of zamindari houses that had ornate carvings and wooden windows with tinted glass. The decor has been heavily influenced by the Zamindari households of Bengal in the 18th Century. The furniture and the cutlery are also in sync with the zamindari mood. The food is served on knashar thala and special emphasis has been laid on the presentation. Pabitra Das

Calcutta Retro is the latest addition to the repertoire of nostalgic Calcutta cuisine in the city. ‘Calcutta Retro — From the Hneshel of Bouthan and Memsahib’ is the brainchild of founders Niloy Datta and Rupa Datta, and is an initiative of the Camellia group.
“Calcutta needed a restaurant where we celebrate the hidden recipes of the past, especially the illustrious Zamindari past as well as the Colonial West. There has been a lot of research while finalising the menu and in the coming next few months, we will be launching three more ‘Calcutta Retro’ restaurants,” said Niloy and Rupa.
