Onam was celebrated at a housing complex in Garia’s Brahmapur on Sunday. Since Onam fell on a weekday, the residents of Niva Park Phase-II decided to celebrate it on Sunday.

“We made the athapookalam (a floral decoration), which is a tradition of Kerala. We gave flower petals to everyone so they could take part in the making of the athapookalam,” said Mala Ranganathan, a resident of the housing complex.

It was followed by a cultural programme, which included Kaikottikkali, a dance performed by women, and group and solo dances. “At the end, we distributed payasam to the attendees,” said Ranganathan.
