Rain predicted
A day of heat and soaring humidity was followed by a spell of evening rain in some parts of the city and the Met office was hopeful of more relief in the coming days. A system now brewing on the Bay is likely to cause an increase in the rainfall activity in Kolkata on Wednesday and Thursday, said a Met official. For most of Monday, Kolkata and much of south Bengal sweated and fretted under the combined assault of heat and humidity. “Thunderstorms are likely in Kolkata on Tuesday,” said a Met official. The volume of rain is likely to go up on Wednesday and Thursday.
Emergency landing
An Air India flight from Hong Kong to Delhi, made an emergency landing at Kolkata airport on Monday because of a suspected fuel leakage. The flight, carrying 242 passengers and crew members, landed at 11.15am. The aircraft was grounded, said an airport official.
