As soon as Surva Chakraborty, an IT professional, arrived in Kolkata from Bangalore, she rushed to breathe in the air of the Boi Mela. She said, ‘These events are essential, as it makes everyone come out of their house and spend time together in search of stories that interest them’

In his 60s, poet Jaladhi Halder describes himself as someone who is continuously surprised by the melody of words. He said, ‘I keep visiting Boi Mela in search of books that are difficult to find in College Street.’ Highlighting the significance of reading, he said, ‘Without books, a man stops growing, and starts losing one the greatest joys of life. Seeing youngsters visit such events is exciting’

UPSC aspirant Keshav Memani was in search of historical books that will educate him on India's colonial past at the Kolkata Book Fair. Memani said, ‘Books that inform people on incidents that have played a crucial role in defining India are my areas of interest’

Writer Madhubani Kulabhi said, ‘Boi Mela has played an integral part in my life since my childhood days. Every year, I come here to enjoy the environment and immerse myself in different books’
