Around 12 enthusiastic ladies joined the coffee painting workshop ‘Brew and Hue’ at Hyatt Centric Ballygunge on September 4 conducted in association with artist Prarthana Goyal who owns Not Enough Yellow, a homegrown brand selling hand-painted accessories
All photographs by Amit DattaThe art workshop was held at the Tess, an in-house all-day Euro- Asian bistro of the newly opened hotel in south Kolkata. The place, which stays open from 11am to 11pm, smelt of coffee as the mentor and participants picked their brushes up to paint with real coffee
The participants were given all the art supplies and coffee concoction. The paintings were made by diluting the coffee with water to bring different shades
Artist Prarthana taught the amateur painters how to bring out different textures and shades with her skilful brush techniques
When asked why coffee painting, the artist said: ‘I love coffee! I have always been an artist and when cafés approached me to conduct workshops, I picked coffee.’ Prarthana owns Not Enough Yellow and customises shoes and bags. The homegrown brand is about a year-and-a-half old
At the end of the workshop, three winners were announced. Aerica Sardar, a chartered accountant and a digital creator, Minal Khetan, also a digital creator, and Veenu Kaur, founder @araamabyveenukaur, won a special prize from Hyatt Centric Ballygunge. Surprised at her win, Aerica said: ‘I am a painter but this was my first time painting with coffee. It was fun and enriching. I am happy to have been chosen as one of the winners’
Besides the painting activity, participants also enjoyed some coffee and flatbreads from the Tess kitchen
Glen Dsouza, general manager, Hyatt Centric Ballygunge Kolkata also tried his hands at coffee painting.
