In pics: Glenburn Culture Club and Pickle Factory Dance Foundation host Artist Diaries 1.2 with dance, dialogue and delight

Glenburn Penthouse was transformed into a hub of artistic exploration and cultural exchange as it played host to the much-anticipated Artist Diaries - Edition 1.2. For this edition, Austrian dance crew CieLAROQUE was invited to speak about their art and to showcase a preview of their production Rhythm & Intoxication. Glenburn Culture Club and Pickle Factory Dance Foundation hosted the event on February 13, where choreographer Helene Weinzierl and members of CieLAROQUE later engaged in an intimate conversation with Pickle Factory Kolkata director Vikram Iyengar

Before taking the performance to New Town the next day, members of the dance group gave a preview of their production ‘Rhythm & Intoxication’

The choreography is an exploration of interpersonal dynamics in the context of public spaces, offering a nuanced reflection on post-Covid societal norms. Despite its playful veneer, the performance left a lasting impression, prompting introspection and dialogue among spectators

The conversation was conducted by Vikram Iyengar, director of Pickle Factory Kolkata. ‘The idea was to bring international-level contemporary dance to public spaces in Kolkata. They are focused on audience participation and taking the joy of dance to different audiences. This idea that CieLAROQUE brings through their performances falls perfectly with the ethos of Pickle Factory. And we want to take this to as many people as possible,’ he said

Audience members listened intently as the conversation unfolded. ‘It (the performance) was so playful, it felt like the energy and feeling we had as children playing games. The games had rules but always came up with something surprising. It was a very engaging evening,’ said Siddique Cowper (second from left)
