Furrfolks, an organisation based out of Kolkata working for the welfare of stray animals along with Prabha Khaitan Foundation under their initiative Karuna, joined hands to help shelter pets find their forever homes. An adoption camp, ‘Adopt-a-pet’, was organised on January 8 at The Common Room café in Southern Avenue

The initiative was aimed towards developing innovative solutions for getting more shelter pets adopted and expanding their shelter assistance programmes. This was the Furrfolks’ third chapter in Adopt-a-pet. Well-groomed and vaccinated, indie puppies and kittens, were up for adoption and new pet parents visited the session

Actor Anindya Chatterjee, who is also an animal-lover and a pet parent, was the special guest of the event. He said, "I have been associated with Furrfolks for quite some time. Whenever I find a stray dog or a kitten, they are always so helpful. This is a great initiative. I want to tell people that indies are a 'no-nonsense' breed and perfect for the Indian climate. I have two of them. The breed is very Indian so why not love them too!" SK Basit, co-founder of Furrfolks, said, “Rescue, treatment and adoption are the three most important issues regarding animal welfare. A successful adoption plays a significant role in the process. Foster homes and shelters will have no space for further accommodation otherwise. We are delighted to be associated with Prabha Khaitan Foundation for our Adopt-a-pet chapter 3. Everyone is invited to attend the camp and welcome the fur babies in their families, warm-heartedly.”

We not only want to create awareness in pet adoption but will now be able to save the lives of hundreds of homeless pets together.” About eight kittens and puppies received loving homes while three have been booked and will be sent to their families soon. Adoptions can be done online too
