Work on tracks, signals to upset Jharkhand trains for 15 days

Repair and maintenance work of tracks and signalling systems at two stations in Bihar and Chhattisgarh will lead to widespread disruption in train schedules with as many as 10 trains likely to be cancelled or rescheduled for over a fortnight from Wednesday.

“Never before has such a large number of trains been cancelled for maintenance related work,” said Tatanagar station director H.K. Balmuchu, adding that movement of other trains running on the Chakradharpur division may also get affected.

Normal services are likely to be restored from February 2.

He assured passengers that they would be given full refund for tickets already booked on the trains that would be cancelled or rescheduled.

The railways are undertaking non-interlocking work at Sone Nagar junction at Mughalsarai (Bihar) of East Central Railway and at Champa junction (Chhattisgarh) under South East Central Railway.

Several other trains, including the Pune-Howrah Azad Hind Express, Puri-New Delhi Utkal Express, Howrah Mail and South Bihar Express, would also be rescheduled on January 24, 26, 29 and 30.
