The Ranchi Met Centre on Tuesday afternoon issued an alert on thunderstorm and rain in western Jharkhand during the next 24 hours owing to the impact of a low-pressure trough.

A trough extending up to 1.5km above mean sea level was running between a cyclonic circulation over south Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha and this will impact Jharkhand’s weather for the next two days.

“A cyclonic circulation has formed over Madhya Pradesh. A trough has also formed running from this system to Vidarbha,” said S.D. Kotal, the director of Ranchi Meteorological Centre.

Weathermen said several isolated areas in Palamau region and Garhwa witnessed moderate thunderstorm on Tuesday afternoon. Light showers were also reported in some places. A duty officer at Ranchi Meteorological Centre said partly cloudy sky with possibility of rain at one or two places is expected in the districts of south, central and north-east Jharkhand on Wednesday and Thursday.
