Roads in the Jharkhand capital wore an almost deserted look on Friday as the state welcomed 2021 amid the coronavirus pandemic. Major parks parks and other amusement centres in the capital are still not allowed to reopen after the lockdown.

However, tourist destinations across the state remained crowded as people celebrated New Year’s Day.

At Hundru falls, a popular destination in Angara block, around 40km from Ranchi, tourism department officials pegged the turnout to around 30,000. Similar turnout of picnickers was witnessed at Johna falls too, located at a distance of about 5km from Hundru.

Temples and other places of worship across Ranchi, Dhanbad and Jamshedpur saw a generous amount of footfall as several residents, as well as people from outside the state, visited the locations to offer prayers on the first day of 2021.
