Neighbours of Baghmara MLA, launches fast unto death accusing him of land abrogation

The allegations have put lawmaker in the eye of storm

Baghmara MLA, Dhullu Mahto who is facing various criminal charges is in centre of controversy and this time his neighbor at his native village Chitahi has accused him of abrogating his land and also beating him.

Mahto, a makeshift eatery owner who sat on fast unto death along with his wife, Kunti Devi; son, Sumit Kumar and daughter, Nitu Kumari at Randhir Verma Chowk near the district headquarters from May 4 charged that while the MLA was establishing Ram Raj temple in his village he has also donated his 14 decimal of land along with 97 other villagers for noble cause but he was not aware of fact that the MLA was eyeing on his entire ancestral land including the plot on which his shop is situated.

Kunti Devi wife of Ashok Mahto claimed that Dhullu Mahto and his family members wanted them to vacate their land and putting all kinds of pressure of them and even attacked her on February 22 this year when she objected over the parking of a water tanker of MLA in front of her food outlet on her land due to which she got injured.

Notably, over 150 local residents of Baghmara along with Dhullu Mahto carried out a half naked protest in front of district headquarters along with Ashok Mahto and his family on March 3 charging Mahto of forcible capturing of their land by he MLA.

Ashok Mahto and his family members also carried out a similar indefinite fast at the district headquarters earlier on April 18 demanding justice from the police and administration but they later broke their fast on the assurance of district administration.

Talking to media at the protest site today Kunti Devi said, “The MLA is using all illegal means right from threatening to the violent attack against us to grab our land.”

“Following the fast launched by us during the last time on April 18 the administration promised us to intervene in the issue and also assured justice to us and thus we ended our stir on the same day but as no action has initiated till date even after the passing of more and 20 days we were compelled to launch fast unto death again from today” said Kunti Devi.

Dhullu Mahto while countering the charges of Ashok Mahto and family in the media interaction said “the land on which Ashok Mahto is staking claim doesn’t belong to him”
