Virtual chess tournament for boys

The East Singhbhum District Chess Association (ESDCA) has come up with a virtual chess tournament for budding chess enthusiasts amid the restrictions induced by Covid-19.

The daylong online event is an opportunity for Under-13 boys to excel.

ESDCA secretary Narendra Kumari Tiwari said that the online tournament for rated and unrated players is scheduled on May 26 from 1pm to 4pm.

Trophies will be given away to top three players in both the sections.

The entry fee is fixed at Rs 75 and the same can be sent to arbiters Chandra Kumar Prasad (for the unrated section) and Vishal Kumar Minz (for the rated section).

According to district chess outfit’s treasurer Jayant Kumar Bhuyan, the event will be based on Lichess or chess.com systems. Lichess and chess.com are websites where enthusiasts play chess.

“New participants of the tournament must submit their birth certificates issued by the notified area or municipal corporation. The cut off birthdate is on or after January 1, 2007,” Bhuyan said.

Entries can be submitted to the arbiters till 10am of May 26 itself.

Last week, the ESDA had also conducted an online tourney for both Under-11 boys and girls.
