Cabinet’s first moves on farmers, revenue: Jharkhand ministers push for growth

On the first day of the Assembly session, ministers in Jharkhand’s Hemant Soren-led cabinet took swift action, with key announcements including increased milk incentives and strategies to boost revenue collection.

Soon after joining the office, agriculture, animal husbandry and cooperative minister Shilpi Neha Tirkey announced that milk producers farmers will get an increased incentive amount for each litre of milk from this fiscal (2024-25).

She gave the consent to the file paving the way for an incentive amount of 5 per litre instead of the earlier amount of 3 per litre to the milk producers associated with the Jharkhand Milk Federation.

This has been the longstanding demand of over 40,000 milk producing farmers and now has the approval of the cabinet.

In a meeting, Tirkey directed all the departmental officers to ensure the successful implementation of welfare and beneficial schemes.

She also reviewed all the schemes and directed officials to submit a detailed report on departmental activities on different schemes.

Revenue, land reform and transport minister Deepak Birua also took charge in the department on the first day of the Assembly session.

Barua reviewed the works with the officials of the land revenue and transport department and stressed on increasing revenue collection and warned against any laxity on this front.

He said a meeting would be organised in January with all the divisional commissioners regarding land revenue and thereafter with the district heads.

Earlier in the day, the special session of Jharkhand Assembly witnessed the pro-tem Speaker Stephen Marandi administering oath to 80 newly-elected lawmakers. The Protem speaker himself will take the oath on Tuesday in the 81-member house.

Chief minister Hemant Soren and the cabinet ministers took the oath first followed by other elected MLAs.

The Speaker will be elected on December 10. The supplementary budget will be tabled on December 11.
