Several Opp leaders hold 'dharna' near Gandhi statue in Parliament house complex

Leaders of several opposition parties on Friday staged a joint 'dharna' (protest) near the Gandhi statue in Parliament house complex over the Adani issue and raised slogans against the government.

Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress president and leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge and party leader Rahul Gandhi were present during the protest.

The MPs of various Opposition parties assembled near the Gandhi statue after both the houses were adjourned for the day.

"Simple Hai Modiji, We want JPC," Kharge tweeted later.

Holding placards and banners in support of their demand for a JPC into the Adani issue, they raised slogans against the government and in support of their demand.

Among the parties that were present at the protest included Congress, Left parties, DMK, AAP, Shiv Sena (UBT), JMM and BRS.

The leaders earlier met in the chamber of Kharge in Parliament house complex and decided to stage a joint protest.
