A team of senior Kerala police officers has been assigned to watch a Malayalam film over a petition against excessive use of profanities in the critically acclaimed movie.

Director-general of police Anil Kant has constituted the team to watch Churuli and submit a report in two weeks.

Directed by Lijo Jose Pelliserry, Churuli (Spiral) won the best film award in the audience poll at the 25th International Film Festival of Kerala in March last year.

It was later screened at the Tokyo International Film Festival, before being released on Sony Liv OTT (over the top) platform on November 19.

A Kerala High Court single bench of Justice K.V Kunhikrishnan had on Friday ordered the police chief to watch the film and submit a report after a lawyer named Peggy Fen filed a petition seeking its removal from the OTT platform.
