The parliamentary standing committee on information technology on Monday decided to give Twitter’s head honchos, including CEO Jack Dorsey, time till February 25 to appear before it.

The panel refused to engage with the micro-blogging site’s India team, which had gone to Parliament in the hope of answering the committee’s queries.

Four officials of Twitter India were outside the room where the panel was meeting at the Parliament Annexe on Monday afternoon but the standing committee did not meet them.

“The chairman informed us that Twitter, in its first communication to the panel, had said that nobody in its India office was authorised to deal with legal, financial and policy matters. So, the committee felt it was pointless meeting the team that had come,” a panel member said.

Representatives of Facebook and WhatsApp will also be summoned.
