The Indian Air Force's strike on terrorist camps in Pakistan's Balakot underscores the will and resolve of a new India, BJP president Amit Shah said on Tuesday.

'I congratulate and salute the bravery and valour of our armed forces. Today's action further demonstrates that India is safe and secure under the strong and decisive leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,' he said.

'Our New India will not spare any acts of terror and their perpetrators and patrons,' Shah added.

The government on Tuesday morning announced a 'non-military pre-emptive action' in which IAF force jets struck the 'biggest Jaish-e-Mohammad facility near Balakot... in which top leaders have been eliminated'. The strike comes 12 days after the Pulwama terror attack in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed.

The Prime Minister himself is yet to comment on the strike that took place in the early hours of Tuesday.

At Rashtrapati Bhawan to receive the Gandhi Peace Prize for 2015-2018, Modi, wo earlier in the say chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security at his official residence, made an indirect reference to bombing.

Modi, who arrived for the event later than the scheduled time, said: 'First of all, my apologies or being late. The programme started late as I reached here late. I was busy in some other work and I was late.'
