The Congress' Bharat Jodo Yatra on Tuesday entered Uttar Pradesh after resuming its second leg of the journey from the national capital following a nine-day year-end break.

Party workers lined up on both sides of the road at the Loni border in Ghaziabad and welcomed Rahul Gandhi and other 'yatris' as the march entered the state.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said that he could have used “much harsher words than epicentre” for Pakistan for its role in promoting cross-border terrorism as he underlined that the world needs to be concerned about terrorism.

Jaishankar, who has often described Pakistan as the "epicentre of terrorism', in an interview to Austria's national broadcaster ORF on Monday also criticised European nations for not condemning the (terrorism) practices that have been going on for multiple decades.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday outlined the vision for science for the next 25 years, urging researchers to make the country self-reliant and focus on converting their knowledge to bring about change in everyday life.

Inaugurating the 108th Indian Science Congress here, Modi also stressed on strengthening scientific processes, focus on emerging areas such as quantum technologies, data sciences, development of new vaccines, stepping up efforts on surveillance for newer diseases and encouraging youngsters to take up research.

Shock and haemorrhage due to injury to the head, spine and lower limbs led to the death of the 20-year-old woman who was hit and dragged by a car here, according to a preliminary autopsy report which also indicated "no injury suggestive of sexual assault," police said on Tuesday. The victim's body was handed over to her family today.

Police also said that at the time of the accident, she was accompanied by a frriend who fled the scene due to fear. Her friend was called in for an interrogation. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the kin of the victim.

The Indian Army's bomb disposal experts on Tuesday removed the live explosive, which was found a day earlier close to the helipad used by Punjab and Haryana chief ministers here, an official said.

Earlier in the day, the experts of the Indian Army reached the spot where the live explosive was found.

After examining the object, they experts decided to take the shell with them, Sanjeev Kohli, nodal officer, disaster management, Chandigarh, told reporters here.

Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly will be returning to the IPL fold as Director of Cricket with the Delhi Capitals during the upcoming edition starting in April, sources close to the development confirmed.

The former India captain, who stepped down from the BCCI president's post in October, will also oversee all the cricket verticals of the franchise along with the ILT20 team Dubai Capitals and the SA T230 league side Pretoria Capitals.

The mortal remains of six people including two minor cousins who were killed in twin terrorist incidents in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district were given a tearful and emotional farewell as they were cremated at their native place on Tuesday.

Hundreds of sobbing mourners - relatives, friends and neighbours - queued up with flowers and wreaths to pay their last respects to the mortal remains at the government higher second school, where the bodies were kept for the night.

Eminent Rabindra Sangeet exponent Sumitra Sen died at her residence here on Tuesday morning, family members said.

Sen, 89, was suffering from broncho-pneumonia and was hospitalised on December 21. She was brought home on Monday, where she breathed her last around 4.30 am.

BJP president J P Nadda on Tuesday alleged that 'Jungle Raj' has returned to Bihar, alluding to the formation of the 'Mahagathbandhan' (Grand Alliance) government in the state around five months ago.

Addressing party workers in Muzaffarpur district's Paru, which falls under Vaishali Lok Sabha constituency, Nadda claimed there has been a complete breakdown in law and order in the state after the Nitish Kumar-led JD(U) formed the government with Congress and RJD.

Five members of a family, including two children, were killed in a multiple collision involving the car in which they were traveling and a lorry, on the Chennai-Trichy national highway near Veppur in Tamil Nadu's Cuddalore district, police said on Tuesday.

The car, bound for Chennai, halted near Veppur in the early hours owing to the traffic congestion caused due to the construction of a flyover at Iyyanarpalayam when a speeding lorry crashed into the car from behind.
