Timothée Chalamet, who is playing the role of the iconic folk-turned-rock singer Bob Dylan in the upcoming biopic A Complete Unknown, was recently spotted filming scenes with his co-star Elle Fanning in Hoboken, New Jersey on Tuesday. Here’s a look.
The Dune star channeled his inner Bob Dylan in a retro ensemble consisting of a flannel shirt and a pair of jeans. Fanning, who plays Dylan’s girlfriend Suze Rotolo, was all smiles as she sat beside Timothée and gazed at him while he wrapped his arm around her. She was dressed casually in a fur-lined brown suede coat and jeans, coupled with a pair of knee-high boots. The choice of outfits instantly reminds fans of the cover picture of Dylan’s 1963 album The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan.
For a shot in New Jersey, Fanning sported a floral knit sweater paired with a shimmery black mini-skirt and net stockings. She smiled at people outside while sitting inside a taxi.
Fanning held Timothée from behind as the two of them rode a bike for a scene. “At the Newport Folk Festival in 1965, a young Bob Dylan shakes up his act on the folk music scene by going electric and siring rock as the voice of a generation - defining one of the most transformative moments in 20th century music,” reads the official synopsis of the film as per IMDb.
Directed and co-written by Logan director James Mangold, A Complete Unknown follows Dylan’s arrival in New York in 1961 in search of his idol, the folk singer Woody Guthrie. The film explores the singer’s early career, focusing on his transformation from a folk icon to a rock artiste. The biopic is based on Elijah Wald’s 2015 book Dylan Goes Electric!
Filming for A Complete Unknown began in March. According to reports, Timothée has listened to 12 hours worth of unreleased music by Dylan in a bid to play the singer on screen. Mangold had also revealed that the Wonka star will sing Dylan’s songs in the film.
