Filmmaker Ram Kamal Mukherjee returns to his roots in Calcutta with Lokkhikantopur Local, starring Rituparna Sengupta, Paoli Dam, Kaushik Ganguly, Chandreyee Ghosh, Indraneil Sengupta, Saayoni Ghosh and Rajnandini Paul in pivotal roles. Lokkhikantopur Local is about three couples from Calcutta and the story revolves around three house helps who come from the suburbs.
Produced under the banner of Angel Creations, the film has been shot across various locations in Bengal by ace cinematographer Ayan Sil and introduces Manish Chakraborty as music director. “For any director, it’s an honour to work with such professional actors who know their craft so well. Everyone was so involved in the minutest detail that it helped us as a team to deliver nothing but the best,” says Ram Kamal Mukherjee.
Rituparna Sengupta plays the role of a middle-class homemaker in the film. “I call him Aarkay. I have seen Aarkay’s films Season’s Greetings and Ek Duaa, and I feel that he mastered the art of sketching the character graph like a symphony. Every chord matters in his framework,” says Rituparna Sengupta.
Sangita Sinha, who plays one of the female protagonists and doubles as the producer of the film, went through rigorous training under Daminee Benny Basu. “I believe, cinema is completely a director’s medium. Ram Kamalda wanted a certain body language and diction which Bennydi helped me in achieving,” says Sangita who worked with Mukherjee in his short film Rickshawala in 2020.
“We have been planning to collaborate and do a nice feature film. When Ram Kamalda approached me with the subject, I instantly jumped with joy. I know for a fact that this film will connect with everybody,” says Sangita.
The film deals with different standards of life and vocation which have been weaved in through the fabrics by costume designer Poulami Gupta. Pronoy Dasgupta reunites after Binodiini Ekti Natir Upakhyan as editor of this film, while Paawaan Aagarwal joins the team as associate director and casting director for the project.
