At present, the brand has the Tiago JTP and the Tigor JTP cars, which are enhanced versions of the regular Tiago and Tigor models.

The service, spares and warranty terms will be exactly the same as the regular Tigor and the Tiago. But the JTP products will have enhanced engine output and performance, a sporty design both in the exteriors and interiors and an improved driving dynamics.

Vivek Srivatsa, head of marketing (passenger vehicles) at Tata Motors, told over the phone, “The JTP brand is our performance wing which will have the JTP logo. We decided to launch our performance (high-speed) vehicles because we felt there was an inherent demand for such fun vehicles. Till now, the car buying experience has been pretty routine for consumers. Vehicles were just a means of commute from point A to B. With the performance vehicles, consumers can now enjoy the thrill of driving.”

The JTP vehicles will be manufactured in the same assembly line of the Tiago and Tigor at Sanand in Gujarat.

“It is just a different variant,” said Srivatsa.

The vehicles will be powered by 1.2 litre turbo-charged Revotron petrol engine and can go from 0 to 100 mph in 10 seconds. These special performance vehicles, priced at Rs 6.39 lakh (Tiago STP) and Rs 7.49 lakh (Tigor STP), will target young customers looking for driving thrills and are expected to boost the market share of Tata Motors’ new-generation hatchbacks and sedans.

While the Tiago has a market share of 16 per cent, the Tigor has a 5 per cent share. The JTP brands will be available only in select dealerships in Calcutta, Delhi, Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Bangalore, Chennai, Coimbatore, Ahmedabad, Kannur, Thrissur, Mumbai and Cochin.
