Young innovators from 10 schools of Jharkhand congregated at IIT (Indian School of Mines-ISM) in Dhanbad to execute their innovative ideas into reality during the grand finale of the Jharkhand school innovation challenge (JH-SIC) 2023 which began on Monday.
Over 40 students gathered for the week-long innovation contest, claimed by the institute as the biggest in the state.
“JH-SIC 2023, witnessed the innovative ideas taking shape into reality as startup projects as they visited different labs of the institute at its coal technology innovation hub, TEXMiN and Atal Community Innovation Centre (ACIC),” said dean media and branding IIT (ISM), Rajni Singh.
On the inaugural day, students also interacted with director IIT (ISM) J.K Pattanayak and learnt about the innovation promotion activities being carried out at the institute at its different centres including Naresh Vashisht Centre Tinkering and Innovation (NVCTI), TEXMiN and ACIC, including the training and startup promotion activities.

J.K. Pattanayak, the chief guest of the inaugural function, in his address encouraged the visitors to work on innovative ideas. “Your selection among the top 10 school teams out of more than 150 teams from across the state passing through four different phases of selection speaks volumes about your talent and you will get the necessary guidance and support to execute your ideas into reality,” Pattanayak said.
Deputy director IIT (ISM) Dheeraj Kumar, informed that the contest has been held for three years. “We have been organising the innovation contest, JH-SIC, every year for the last three years in order to provide a platform to the hidden talent and help them to execute their scientific ideas into reality.”
Kumar gave details of the innovative activities being carried out by undergraduate students at different state of art labs of NVCTI, including IOT lab, Robotics and Animation Centre etc.
Executive officer, NVCTI, Rajen Dasgupta gave details of the week-long schedule to the visiting students and their mentor teachers accompanying them.
Incidentally, innovative ideas have been invited by IIT (ISM) from different schools across the state on the basis of 250 ideas received from over 150 schools.
Out of which 10 school’s ideas including that of DBMS English School, Jamshedpur, DAV Public School, Koylanagar, DAV Public School, CCL, Barkakhana, DAV Public School, Giridih, Savitri Devi DAV Public School, Jamtara, SDSM School for Excellence, Jamshedpur, Delhi Public School, Bokaro, Hill Top School, Jamshedpur and Loyola School, Jamshedpur have been selected for participating in grand finale.
Based on the seven-day innovative activities during the grand finale week during which they will also be helped to execute their ideas, the showcasing of ideas will be held on September 8 after which the judgment will be carried out and winners will be awarded on September 9 during the award ceremony. The winners will also be helped to develop their ideas into reality to be used on a commercial scale.
The first three winners will get cash prizes worth Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.
