Ramakrishna Mission Residential College, Narendrapur, has appealed to its alumni for help so the college can improve “infrastructure both for lab-based and non-lab-based subjects” for efficient implementation of the four-year undergraduate programme.
An appeal signed by the principal of the college, Swami Ekachittananda, says the college needs support as it has to build and upgrade classrooms and laboratories.
The increase in the student count and the introduction of the four-year undergraduate programme “may require setting up” of another residential facility, the principal has written in his appeal.
“Like all other higher education institutes of the state, we are also gearing up for the implementation of National Education Policy 2020. The big challenge right now is concerning the introduction of the four-year undergraduate programme from the current academic session (2023-24). Undoubtedly, the proposed implementation demands a massive enhancement of infrastructure both for lab-based and non-lab-based subjects,” the principal has written.
“...Let me appeal once again, on behalf of the college to all the beloved alumni and well-wishers for rendering pecuniary support.”
The principal told The Telegraph: “If we cannot build the required support, the four-year undergraduate programme cannot be run efficiently in compliance with UGC guidelines. So we have sought help from the alumni.”
Sources in the college said they had to reach out to former students all the more as the state and the central governments have not provided any financial assistance towards enhancing infrastructure for smooth running of the four-year programme. “On any residential campus, the implementation necessitates a massive augmentation of infrastructure,” a college official said.
This newspaper reported on May 8 that the teachers’ association at Rabindra Bharati University (RBU) had written to governor C.V. Ananda Bose, chancellor of all state-aided universities, appealing for adequate funds for hitch-free implementation of the four-year programme.
