Recently the University Grants Commission (UGC) released a list of Higher Educational Institutes that has been recognised by the commission to offer Open and Distance Learning (ODL) programmes. With the academic year to begin soon, Students have time till March 31 to get themselves admitted to an institute of their choice.
UGC has released a number of essential considerations for students before enrolling themselves in the distance and online learning programmes.
The UGC has advised students to ensure the approval/recognisition status of the Higher Educational Institution (HEI) & Programme. Before applying, students must verify the recognition/Entitlement Status of the HEIs. Check the recognition status of the programme including the year of recognition on UGC and DEB website.
Check details on HEI's website - All HEIs that are recognised/entitled to offer Open and Distance learning programmes and online programmes are required the upload details of the application on its website. Also, students have been advised to ensure that the Higher Educational Institute is not debarred or has been put under the no admission category.
The UGC has also advised students to ensure that the programme nomenclature, duration and entry qualification adhere to UGC Notification on the Specification of Degrees and its subsequent amendments.
Students have also been advised to ensure that all activities of the HEI including admission, counselling sessions, contact programmes, program delivery and examinations are conducted by the HEI strictly within the territorial jurisdiction of HEI for ODL programs and also ensure that the programme is not offered under the franchising mode.
