Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan is slated to announce the annual National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2022 on July 15 2022 at 11 AM, via virtual conference.

“The annual exercise outlines a methodology to rank Higher Education Institutions across India in various categories and subject domains,” tweeted the Ministry of Education on Tuesday evening.

Eleven categories, including Overall, University, Management, College, Pharmacy, Medicine, Engineering, Architecture, ARIIA (Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements), Law and Research Institutions will be a part of the 2022 NIRF India Ranking. For each category, a different set of NIRF India Ranking criteria and weighted averages have been used to determine the ranks.

Some of the criteria used to evaluate institutions are teaching-learning and resource availability, research and professional practice, graduation rates, outreach and inclusion, and perception.

A total of 7254 higher education institutions from all around India took part in NIRF this year, a marked increase from the 6272 institutions from last year.

NIRF was launched in 2015 with the objective of establishing nationalised rating criteria for the nation's higher education institutions. Initially, four categories of the inaugural rankings, mostly based on subjects, had been announced. In 2019, the number of categories was raised to eight, with an added category of ‘Overall’ institutes. This year sees the addition of 2 more categories to the existing list.
