Years of hard work finally paid off for 26-year-old Shweta Salve, the daughter of a Mumbai-based auto-rickshaw driver who finally cleared the Chartered Accountant (Final) examination in her third attempt. A brilliant student since her school days, Shweta never gave up on herself, kept the belief that she would be able to succeed and finally achieved her goal, battling all odds.
Shweta's father, Rajesh Salve has been driving his autorickshaw on the roads of Mumbai, for over 30 years. Despite financial constraints, Rajesh saved every penny he could, for his daughter's higher education upon realising her keen interest in studies.
The journey has also been an easy one for Shweta, who scored an impressive 84.91% marks in her 10th board exams and 87% in the 12th, topping the Mumbai District in English.
Speaking to The Telegraph Online Edugraph over the phone from her Chembur home, Shweta shared sneak peeks from her journey to the top.
A brilliant student, her academic prowess got recognised when she received various scholarships from organisations like Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers (RCF).
"The scholarships helped me a lot in continuing with my studies and eased off the financial burden from my parents to a great extent," said Shweta.
"The journey was challenging. Often there were times when I thought of giving up. However, it was the continued sacrifice of my parents and the motivation they provided me, that it was possible to see my dream come true," said Shweta.
"My father spent his entire savings on my studies. He made sure that I received the best books and coaching during my preparation, while my mother Madhuri Salve provided me with all the mental support I needed," she added.
Shweta also talks about failures. However, not losing hope even after repeated failures is what makes a person succeed, says the 26-year-old.
"I was good at Mathematics. However, I was not interested in Science. Hence, I took up BCom in my graduation and started preparing for the CA exam," she said.
Presently, Shweta is looking for employment with one of the leading corporate houses in the country and hopes to land up with a job soon.
"My parents have sacrificed everything for me. It is now my turn to look after all their needs and give them the life they deserve," she concludes.
