As the entire city of joy eagerly awaited the 'Kalbaisakhi' to arrive, it was a different scenario at the house of the Sarafs, as they eagerly waited for CISCE to declare the results of the Indian School Certificate (ISC) Examination. As the results were declared at 11 AM, the joy of the 18-year-old knew no bounds.
With a brilliant 99.75 percent, she has topped the country in the examination and shares her rank with another Kolkata girl Ritisha Bagchi. Speaking to The Telegraph Online Edugraph, she credited her teachers and parents for this brilliant feat.
"It was indeed a proud moment. I expected a score of around 95 percent. However, 99.75 percent was completely unexpected. It took me some time to get accustomed to the situation. My parents were by my side while checking the results and they too were pretty surprised," she said.
A professional Odissi dancer, Ribhya wishes to pursue research in Physics and wishes to take up higher studies in the subject at Cornell University in the US.
"My parents and friends always encouraged and motivated me to give my best. I used to study for nearly 5 to 6 hours every weekday, and it used to go up during the weekend," she added.
A movie buff and an avid reader, her favourite film is Intersteller, directed by Christopher Nolan while she also likes books by Agatha Christie.
Ribhya's mother Poonam broke into tears while talking about her daughter's achievements.
"We are really proud of her. This is an emotional moment for all of us. We never imagined that she will score such a brilliant result," she said.
"She has always balanced her co-curricular activities along with her studies. We never had to give in much effort for her," she added.
Ms Rupkatha Sarkar, Principal of Ribhya's school La Martiniere for Girls praised her efforts in the examination and said that she has lived the school's motto of working consistently to excel.
"Ribhya has done her school family proud by her excellent ISC scores . She is a quintessential Martinian who lived the school motto of Labore et Constantia . It signifies , working consistently to excel," she said.
A total of 99,901 candidates had appeared in the Class XII ISC examination that was conducted between February 12 and April 4 this year. This year's ISC examinations have witnessed a pass percentage of 98.19 percent.
