The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, has improved its ranking by 10 places in the QS World University Rankings 2023. The institute has notched up an overall rank of 270.
The ‘citations per faculty’ score of IIT Kharagpur also saw a rise, with the institute figuring among the top 19% in the QS World University Rankings 2023.
“Though I am not very happy with the present ranking of our institute, we are determined to realise our vision to be among the top 10 universities in the world,” IIT Kharagpur director V.K. Tewari said.
“We intend to implement a diverse academic structure following the mandate of a multi-modal curriculum as envisaged in NEP 2020. The institute will continue to facilitate multi-faceted transitions in academy-industry-policy acknowledging social responsibility and ensuring greater synergy,” he added.
IIT Roorkee rose 31 places, IIT Kanpur climbed 13 ranks, IIT Guwahati gained 11 places, IIT Delhi climbed 11 places and IIT Bombay rose five places in the 19th edition of the QS World University Rankings.
IIT Indore was the highest-ranking debutant, placed at 396 globally.
The QS World University Rankings 2023 features over 1,400 universities from around the world. Among them, 41 are Indian universities.
Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a London-based global higher education analyst, has been publishing World University Rankings since 2004. It takes into consideration several parameters such as academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio, international student ratio, employment outcome and international research network.
