Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad has recorded a more than two-fold increase in the number of placement opportunities made available to students completing courses in B Tech, M Tech and five-year integrated M Tech programmes this year.

Compared to the 2020-21 academic year, the overall number of companies participating on Day Zero of the campus placement drive at IIT (ISM) jumped from 21 to 45. Also, the total number of job offers issued increased from 112 to 246 this year.

In a first, quite a few overseas companies and new e-commerce platforms have registered this time for the recruitment drive in which students participated enthusiastically.

According to the institution spokesperson, the placements for 2021-22 started on December 1 at midnight, with record-breaking placements being offered on Day Zero itself.

Around 65 companies participated in the drive on December 1 and 2, with a maximum pay package of Rs 49.13 lakh per annum and a median package of Rs 22.14 lakh per annum.

A total of 362 full-time offers were made till December 2, with 430 students being offered placements. Around 62 of the students had multiple offers.

The prominent companies which students preferred to join include Amazon, Accenture, Japan Axxela, Bajaj Auto, Arista, Flipkart, Atlassian, Innovacer, American Express, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, Accenture India, Microsoft, Jaguar Landrover and ONGC among others.

Orientation programme for freshers at IIT (ISM):

Along with the placement drive, a two-day orientation programme was held at the IIT (ISM) campus for the newly admitted undergraduate students of the 2021 batch.

This year, 1,033 students got admitted into the B Tech and Integrated M Tech programmes, with 43 more students being admitted into B Tech through preparatory.

The orientation programme was held to familiarize students with the institute’s academic, student welfare and managerial systems. The first day of the event attracted about 1,000 students.

IIT (ISM) dean of Academics Chiranjeev Kumar addressed the students and the institute’s director, Rajiv Shekhar, talked about the campus, its resources and wished the students luck for a joyful and prosperous academic year on campus.

Dean of Students’ Welfare M K Singh spoke about the various student groups on campus as well as other opportunities for fellowships and scholarships. During the introduction session, questions from students and parents were also answered.
