The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar has invited applications for admission in two of its PG courses – Masters of Science in Cognitive Science and Masters of Arts in Society and Culture.
The last date for application is January 20, 2022. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, admission tests as well as interviews for the courses will be conducted online.
Applications for these two courses can be obtained from the following link – https://admissions.iitgn.ac.in/pgadmission/
The institute encourages students pursuing the aforementioned programmes to present their research work at national and international conferences and provides travel scholarships of up to Rs 60,000, a statement from IIT Gandhinagar read.
The students eligible for MSc in Cognitive Science can come from a variety of disciplines ranging from psychology, physics, engineering, life sciences and philosophy.
Successfully running since 2013, students of MA in Science and Culture have made their careers in diverse job sectors ranging from prominent media and communication houses to leading NGOs. Many alumni of this programme are currently pursuing their PhDs in India, the United States, Canada and Europe.
Highlighting the unique qualities of these two courses, Jaison A Manjaly, head of discipline of Humanities and Social Sciences at IIT Gandhinagar, said, “The interdisciplinary nature of all the courses at IIT Gandhinagar makes a student’s learning experience highly enriching. The MA in Society and Culture offers students diverse perspectives on social and cultural factors with a nuanced and more in-depth understanding of their context. The MSc in Cognitive Science, on the other hand, offers a deeper understanding of mind, brain, and cognition. These programmes are also uniquely aligned to the IITGN’s vision to enable lifelong learning among the students.”
In both the courses, students will have research experiences like conducting field-work, conducting ethnographic research in the old city of Ahmedabad, visiting historical and archaeological sites in Gujarat and conducting experiments in the state-of-the-art cognitive science lab.
They will also be traveling across the country under the IIT Gandhinagar Explorer Fellowships, taking advantage of the national and international academic and industrial internship opportunities. Exposure to international faculty is another highlight of these programmes.
The thesis allows students to work in their preferred field of specialisation while receiving hands-on supervision by faculty members. This will prepare the students for higher studies and future challenges in life.
