Flipkart, the e-commerce marketplace, has launched the online Supply Chain Operations Academy to equip students with the skills, knowledge and industry training on supply chain.

The academy hopes to certify over 4,000 supply chain workers in the first year itself to bridge the skill gap and create more employment opportunities in the industry.

Candidates will learn about the various aspects of e-commerce supply chain and roles within it, soft skills and compliance.

“The Indian supply chain ecosystem is evolving rapidly and helping provide superior e-commerce experience to millions of customers across the country. In turn, it is creating lakhs of newer job opportunities, necessitating the need for large-scale skilling initiatives to build logistics talent that can complement the sector's future growth,” said Hemath Badri, senior vice-president and head of supply chain, Flipkart.

“We are aware of the need to fill skill gaps. We believe that we will be able to help thousands of candidates develop necessary skills and increase their employability,” Badri said.

For the first phase of the programme, the Supply Chain Operations Academy will take in students from Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal.

Applicants will need to have cleared their Class XII exams from any board. They also need to have access to a smartphone with good data connectivity, 2GB RAM, 64GB internal storage memory, 4G or above connection, internet speed between 25Mbps and 40Mbps and a data plan of 1GB per day.

The 60-day training programme will be divided into two sections ؅— a 15-day digital training session and a 45-day on-job apprenticeship.

All candidates registering for the programme will have to appear for a pre-assessment test on subjects such as English, Mathematics and Logical Reasoning. Candidates will be tested on the basics of these subjects before the start of the programme.

Registration is on for cities in the East and Northeast. Internships will be offered in New Delhi, Kolkata, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Ludhiana, Lucknow, Rewari, Jhajjar, Guwahati, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Bilaspur, Patna and Ranchi.
