Edtech firm First In Class has partnered with the Rotary India Literacy Mission (RILM) to distribute 1,00,000 tablets among kin of martyrs and provide free access to e-learning platforms to mark 75 years of India’s independence, the company said in a statement on May 7.
“This is our way of saluting our martyrs in the 75th year of independence. While there is no way we can repay our debt to those who sacrificed their lives, this is our small tribute to our soldiers. We have been working on e-learning in India for 10 years, reaching out to thousands of schools providing world-class audio-visual content," said Shekhar Mehta, president, RILM.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by Kamal Sanghvi, chairman, RILM, and Kartikeya Sharma, founder, iTV Network at the Rotary International Presidential Conference India 2022 held in Hyderabad.
"The government is keen to promote digital learning. In this context, RILM already has an MoU with NCERT to provide e-learning content. In this new year, in line with public priority in vocational training, First In Class in collaboration with RILM will create content for vocational education for higher classes," said Sanghvi.
Member of Parliament and Rotarian, Vivek Tankha, before the event, said, "What is being done today, the world will remember. This MoU is an organised effort to tell the rotary and corporate world that we are ready to educate one lakh deserving children."
The motto ‘all for learning, learning for all’ is the driving force behind First In Class’ involvement in the initiative. The start-up has social justice as a core value and it aims to revolutionise how edtech is delivered, perceived and implemented in India.
"First In Class is born out of the vision that every child is unique and deserves equal opportunity to learn and think. Our curriculum is a result of extensive research on new digital learning techniques. Our highly experienced teachers have carefully curated the curriculum," said Aishwarya Sharma, founder of First In Class.
As a part of the MoU, First In Class will provide high-quality lessons in line with the curriculum for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). To facilitate inclusion, access and mother-tongue learning, the course material will be available in Hindi, English, Tamil, Kannada, Bengali, Punjabi and six other regional languages.
Over 10,000 hours of audio-visual and graphical interface content will be accessible in the course libraries. Facilitated with live teaching, the learners will be exposed to interactive testing and assessment nodules. A user-friendly review deck will be available for the learners and their guardians to keep track of their progress.
The learning modules will include cultural learning, language learning, linguistic training and spiritual learning. Learners will also have access to entrance test modules and specialisation in Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), law and engineering.
