She returned from Delhi to her hometown Buxar in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic. She prepared for the difficult and prestigious three-tier examination all by herself.

“People from small towns have big dreams and much courage to fulfil them. I started going through the books while considering preparing for the civil services examination and got hooked on them. I kept on studying and the result is before you,” Garima told reporters at her home.

“The gap between the rich and poor has been bridged in this age of the Internet. People can prepare well with the help of basic books and YouTube despite living in small towns. All resources are available. You can achieve everything. The only thing needed is high morale,” she added.

Garima had lost her father Narayan Prasad Lohia in 2015. He was a businessman. Her mother Sunita Lohia took care of the family and encouraged her to prepare for the UPSC civil services.

Neighbours, relatives and other people of the town thronged her house to congratulate her and extend good wishes. Sweets were distributed among them.

Chief minister Nitish Kumar extended his good wishes to Garima and other successful candidates in the UPSC civil services exam.
