The Board of Practical Training (Eastern Region) BOPT(ER), Kolkata, organisation under Ministry of Education, Government of India celebrated the Regional Apprentice Day in Kolkata today. BOPT(ER), Kolkata, has announced availability of more than 2 Lakh apprenticeship training facilities in different industries and establishments in Eastern Regions of India.

Dr Ravindra Soni,Advisor AICTE (Delhi),Prof. V.K. Tewari, Director, IIT Kharagpur, Dr. Savita Sengar, VC, Jharkhand Rai University and Shri S.M. Ejaz Ahmed, Director, Board of Practical Training (Eastern Region), Kolkata were present on the occasion.

“During this post pandemic situation, the job gain has not picked up its momentum to the extent the job loss was witnessed during the pandemic. Availability of such a large number of vacancies for apprenticeship training with more than 90% probability of getting employment based on the past years data, is a matter of serious concern for all graduates”, said Shri S.M. Ejaz Ahmed, Director, BOPT(ER), Kolkata, Ministry of Education, Government of India.

Mr Achint Kumar, Under Secretary, Ministry of Education, Government of India in his virtual address applauded the efforts of BOPT(ER) for mobilising students and providing training and job opportunities to lakhs of students through National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS). For the current financial year, it is expected that 1.2 lakh graduates will join this scheme for which Govt. of India has made an allocation of more than 120 crores for payment of stipend to the trainees.

“A total of 43590 fresh graduates and diploma engineers are undergoing apprenticeship training in eastern regional States. BOPT(ER) through its different initiatives such as Regional Apprenticeship Day celebration intends to mobilise graduates and diploma engineers to come forward and get their skill honed to meet the current industry demand and improve their employability. It is observed that more than 92% such apprentices are either absorbed in the same industries or secured employment in other establishments post completion of their training”, added by Mr Ahmed.

“BOPT(ER) is extending services by conducting of Apprenticeship-cum-Job Mela throughout the year”, said Professor, Mr V.K. Tewari, Director, IIT-Kharagpur and Chairman, BOPT(ER).

Celebration of Regional Apprenticeship Day is an initiative to reach the maximum number of students who could be helped to secure gainful employment in today’s time of high unemployment rate.
