The Asian School of Business Management University (ASBM), Bhubaneswar, conducted its 11th National HR Symposium virtually on October 23. The theme of the symposium was ‘Work, Workplace and Workforce—Re-strategising HR’.
Biswajit Pattanayak, the founder and president of ASBM, introduced the theme by underlining the need for adaptability.
The university also launched a new master’s degree programme in Human Resource Management in collaboration with the Human Resource Development (HRD) network. The course will be available from 2022.
Thought leaders, including Nihar Ranjan Ghosh, president-HR of Emami Group; C. Jayakumar, chief human resource officer of Larsen & Toubro; Renu Bohra, chief human resource officer, D.B. Schenker Pvt Ltd; and Bharat Chhabra, head, change management and learning & development, of Tata Power Central Odisha Distribution Pvt Ltd, were present at the inaugural session.
Ghosh said people are the primary assets of an organisation and there must be an emphasis on revamping existing strategies. Jayakumar explained how Larsen & Toubro faced challenges during the pandemic and overcame them gradually. To that, Bohra added that the psychology of the employees were affected highly because of the pandemic and that adversely affected their organisation. Chhabra went on to explain how a power distribution company tackled the employees’ mental and physical health issues in the pandemic situation by re-strategising HR policies.
The plenary session was conducted next with eminent HR practitioners such as G.P. Rao, founder of GPR HR Consulting; Ashwani Kumar Joshi, director of Ernst & Young LLP; and J Subramanian, head-HR of Keller Group. The session saw some innovative solutions and strategies thrown up for improvement of employees’ mental and physical health.
