1. Important chapters to study for the ICSE exam

Section A consists of different objective-type questions which include different chapters. Students should focus on different types of questions. For eg. writing of output, and conversion from one loop to another. Along with theoretical questions that one can gather from the previous years' question papers.

Iteration, conditional statements in Java, Functions, and Arrays are the major chapters that a student must concentrate on.

2. Study method to follow before the ICSE Computer Applications exam

When the exams are knocking at your door, you can take up one question paper from different years and solve them. Get it checked by your teacher who can guide you to where you need to brush up more.

For example, ‘Function’ is an important chapter, and when done properly can help you attempt at least two questions from section B directly.

For Section A, types of conversions and conditional construct part - if/else; switch/case statements are important.

These conversions would require practice. You will be getting many questions from the previous years' paper, you can collate them topic-wise and solve them before the exams.

3. Time allotment for each chapter

Based on the importance of chapters: Function, Array, String Manipulation, Functions or methods.

These chapters will require most of your time while preparing for the exam. Other chapters can have relatively lesser time allotment while studying.

4. A rundown of the ICSE Computer Applications Exam format

The paper is of 100 marks and is divided into two sections, i.e, Section A- 40 marks, and Section B- 60 marks. Section A: Contains objective-type questions, which include short answer questions, which will be 10 in number, 2 marks each and 20 MCQs of 1 mark each.

Section B: There are 6 programmes out of which the student has to attempt any 4. Questions that come under Section A are Output writing, conversion of 1 loop into another loop, and questions based on theory portions, where the student has to be very thorough with the theoretical concepts.

Section B: Generally, there are questions from chapters like Functions, Loops, Iteration, Arrays, Conditional statements and any general questions where you are checking a particular type of number like happy numbers, or automorphic numbers.

5. Coping with exam stress

  • Concentrate more on preparation, if you are well prepared, you will be able to answer any question.
  • Pursuing hobbies like reading or listening to music can help in taking your mind off the upcoming exam stress.
  • Sleep is very important, make sure you get at least 7 hours of sleep.
  • Eat simple and healthy food, and ensure you don’t get unwell right before the exam.
  • Sit down with your parents and share your concerns with them. They are the best people who can counsel you on how to tackle stress.
