The Xavier's Commerce Society of St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata, strives to ignite the competitive spirits within students from across the globe as it brings Case Construe 2023, presented by Ambuja Neotia, in association with Unstop and Actuators. A precursor to the flagship event, Insignia 2023, Case Construe is an international-level case study competition that encapsulates the various domains of the business world. Participants are put in predicaments that go on to challenge their corporate acumen and test their mettle. A competition open to all, attracts participants from across the borders, giving them an opportunity to contest against each other on a common platform.

One of the most prestigious societies of St. Xavier's College (Autonomous), Kolkata, the Xavier's Commerce Society was founded in 2006 with the vision of imparting a multitude of opportunities and apertures to students and assisting them in gaining enriching and exhilarating corporate exposure through brain-racking ideation and simulation of real-life models. With its motto “Dreams. Development. Destiny.", the society endeavours to build budding leaders of the corporate world.

Getting back to an offline Insignia, their flagship event, after two years of it being online, XCS aims to improve and expand its prowess to greater heights. It embodies the zeal and vigour that every Xaverian strives to possess. The society ensures that every student learns practical lessons through the comprehensive activities it organises throughout the year, which seek to emphasise the importance of co-curricular alongside academics. Comprising the following eight events, Case Construe promises to be a holistic experience:-

  • Best Manager - This event provides a comprehensive view of the world of business and navigates the various dimensions that it epitomises. Participants are placed at crossroads with every situation seeming like an impasse. Only the individual possessing exemplary competence and perseverance can rise triumphant above the rest and emerge as the sole victor.
  • Entrepreneurship - This sphere allows the participants the creative freedom and space to innovate. They ought to be enterprising and must act to create, along with building a vision from virtually nothing. In addition to paving their way out of the farrago of crises, participants are given the opportunity of exploring the ingenious ideas within themselves.
  • Human Resource - The most valuable asset of an organisation, this domain deals with human capital and is responsible for managing the operations of a company, leading to its success. Any muddle here can result in a domino effect for the company.
  • Finance - Involving intense number crunching, this event quantifies the success of an organisation. Playing a vital role in keeping the business afloat, this realm is sensitive to the decisions made by the participants and acts as a connecting bridge for the various domains that entail the corporate world. Each move has the potential to alter the future course of the business entity.
  • Marketing - Giving participants an opportunity to get into a marketer's shoes and explore the kaleidoscope of marketing realities. With the given constrained plots, the participants have to come up with an optimal and sustainable strategy to penetrate the market, promoting their product and creating awareness of the same.
  • Public Relations and International Relations - This event serves as a portal of strategic communication that fosters mutually beneficial relationships between organisations and their audiences. The impact that a backlash could have on a company can go on to affect its sustenance in the market. With misinformation spreading at the drop of a dime, cordial and careful public relations have become a necessity in today’s world.
  • Online Treasure Hunt - Laced with a series of challenges and clues, This will help people learn new skills while also strengthening and reinforcing existing ones such as leadership, communication, and problem-solving. Not only will this provide an outlet to learn new skills but it also helps in enhancing the logical reasoning of the participant.
  • Portfolio Management - A simulation of the bourses, this event aims to challenge the strategic abilities of the participants as they attempt to grapple with the volatility of the market. With the ultimate goal of corpus maximisation, participants shall go on to understand, manage, and strive to minimise their risks.

Case Construe shall be preceded by a speaker session wherein Ms. Vrinda Lohia will be delivering an insightful speech on the “Art of solving case studies”. She is currently pursuing a tech-focused MBA from Cornell and has previous experience in working as a management consultant at Bain & Co.

This enlightening speaker session will encompass everything ranging from the approach to be adopted while reading the case study to how facts should be interpreted, analysed and then presented in the solution. It will surely aid the participants in developing the necessary thinking skills and take their experience at Case Construe a notch higher.

With prizes worth ₹80,000 to be won and participation certificates for all competing participants, the case studies will unlock for solving on the 21 February and will remain open for submission until the 26 February.
