The Assam Royal Global University, Guwahati is hosting the East Zone Vice Chancellors’ Meet, organised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) on November 21 and 22. The meeting is themed on ‘Integrating Bharatiya Knowledge System (BKS) with Higher Education.
The inaugural session of the meeting was addressed by Assam Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
The session was also addressed by Jayanta Malla Baruah, Minister, Public Health Engineering, Skill Development Employment and Entrepreneurship and Tourism Department and Atul Kulkarni, National Secretary of Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas.
The meeting is being presided over by Prof GD Sharma, President of AIU, with Dr SP Singh, Vice Chancellor of The Assam Royal Global University playing the host.
Vice Chancellors from different Indian Universities, officials from various ministries of the Government of India, along with apex educational bodies like AICTE, NAAC, ICAR will be present at the meeting.
About 100 Vice Chancellors of the East Zone constituting Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya,
Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Sikkim, Tripura and a part of Uttar Pradesh are attending the Meet physically. About 100 Vice Chancellors of the East Zone will attend the Meet virtually.
The meeting is expected to deliberate on the issues keeping in view the global trends, national preparedness, and regional requirements in consonance with institutional readiness. This meet has stupendous significance as a good number of Vice Chancellors from the East Zone are expected to participate in the deliberations.
These solutions will be discussed in the Annual Meet and final
recommendations will be sent to respective bodies like Ministries, UGC, AICTE, for taking further actions.
The Association of Indian Universities (AIU), is one of the premier apex higher education institutions of the Country established in 1925. It is a research-based policy advice institution to the Government of India in the field of Higher Education, Sports, and Culture.
Being an apex advisory institution, it constitutes an integral part of all major decision-making committees and commissions in the country. As a representative body of Indian universities, it facilitates cooperation and coordination among Indian universities and liaises between the universities and the Government (Central as well as the State Governments) and National and International bodies of higher education in other countries in matters of common interest.
