The National Testing Agency (NTA) has declared the NEET-UG results for 2023 on 13 June. Lakhs of students from across the country took the exam on 7 May, 2023. This year, the overall pass percentage stands at 56.2, quite close to last year’s number.

As soon as the results were announced on Tuesday night, Kaustav Bauri, an 18 year old who's family hails from Barakar neighbourhood of Asansol, Paschim Bardhaman district created a milestone for his state by bagging a high score of 716 out of 720. Kaustav secured the third position in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Under graduation (NEET UG 2023) exams. Edugraph spoke to Kaustav about his feat, and following are some excerpts.

Kaustav credits his extensive preparation strategy for his remarkable success in the NEET UG 2023 exams. “I believe that to sit for these exams one strongly needs to be thorough with NCERT textbooks, as for subjects like Biology and Chemistry, NCERT is super important. Thus, to prepare for these papers, I used the same strategy. Questions directly come from these textbooks. For Physics what helped me crack the exams with such good scores was regular practice, that too on a level wise basis. I firstly started dedicating my time to easy questions in Physics and then moved on to the difficult ones. So, I believe for Physics it was my regular practice and for Biology and Chemistry it was regular reading of concepts that helped me excel.”

Edugraph also spoke to Kaustav's father, Dr. Ranjit Bauri, a professor at the Dept. of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering of IIT Madras. He said, “I am very happy that his hardwork has given him the result that he wanted, and we wish the very best for his future.”

Speaking about her son’s success, Mrs Susmita Layek, Kaustav’s mother, said, “We have no words to express our joy, we feel very happy and proud of Kaustav. He has worked really hard and we are so pleased to see that his hard work has fructified and brought him closer to realising his dreams. We are sure he will do good wherever he goes and make us proud again. We thank God and wish him all the very best in life.”

Long term preparation

Throwing light on his long term preparation, Kaustav stated, “I also started giving mock tests two months before the exam. That helped me to boost my preparation and level up my confidence for the upcoming exams. I remember giving four mock tests in a week. I started preparing for these exams right from class 11, dedicating two years for the preparation. As I also had my class 12 exams this year, I started preparing for other subjects apart from Science a couple of months before the exams to strike a balance between the two major exams I was about to give this year”.

Future plans

Everyone has some goals in their life, and for a few, that goal is to become a doctor. Doctors address human body anomalies and are extremely vital to our society. They work hard to keep us well and happy, making them heroes in our eyes. Kaustav wishes to be a doctor since he has witnessed several severe situations that were successfully treated by medical professionals. He also wants to help and serve the public. “I wish to be an Oncology doctor in the future,” Kaustav signs off. An oncologist is a specialist in diagnosing and treating cancer. Medical oncology, radiation oncology, and surgical oncology are the three main subfields in the category.

The Telegraph Online Edugraph congratulates Kaustav for his success and wishes him the very best for his future.
