15-year-old Rajvi Purkayastha has always been drawn towards music. Being fascinated with the strings and sounds of the violin, she chose this instrument to master her love for music. Taking a first step towards her dream, this talented girl has already released her first album containing instrumental tracks she has composed.

“Violin is a very expressive instrument. In short, it is an extension of someone's voice. What one might not be able to express by speaking can be expressed by playing simple and beautiful tunes on the violin,” says Rajvi.

When asked about her journey to becoming a violinist and her love for the instrument, she says, “I started practising the violin when I was in my first standard (age 5+).

I'm endlessly fascinated by how many different sounds the violin can produce. The range of the violin is so unique with different bow strokes, plucking, or playing behind the bridge, tapping the bow against the strings, harmonics - you get the idea.”

We also asked her what music means to her. “When talking about what music means to me, it is a universal language that I would always prefer using instead of any other language to express my thoughts and feelings. Because you see, neither you are harmed while you express it nor others. Music is what life is. The rhythm and change of pitch in music express the ups and downs of life. You must have observed, a musical piece might have hundreds of beat drops, and rhythmic and pitch changes but it keeps on moving on and always has a pleasant and satisfying ending. This teaches that one must keep on moving on in life until one succeeds.”

When it comes to her success, Rajvi expresses her gratitude for the constant support that she has received from her parents. “I would thank my parents for supporting, motivating and encouraging me, and to my gurus for all the guidance and for helping me emerge as a true and dedicated musician. I am also immensely grateful to my cousins and friends for showering so much love and support.”

For one so young, Rajvi displays tremendous passion for her music, something that clearly moves her when she speaks about it. “I think whatever I am today, and whatever I will be in the future is all because of music. Music is something that can lift up my mood, make me feel calm and relaxed and reduce all the stress that I go through. It is something that gives me an exposure to a bunch of genres. This fuels up my mind with creativity and I end up creating music according to my imagination, and my emotions.”

Having bagged the 18 under 18 trophy, as Rajvi's eyes shone with her future dreams, she was excited to share those with us. “I really have the ambition to become an Independent Indie Artist in future and create music for my country and my society. I create and produce my own compositions and I aspire to continue it in future. I also have a dream to exchange and enhance my taste in music with great Indie artists like Lucky Ali, Euphoria, Prateek Kuhad, The Yellow Diary, The Local Train, Naalayak, A. R. Rahman, Salim- Sulaiman, Anuv Jain ... (the list shall never end)!” Rajvi concludes.

In addition to the violin, Rajvi also plays a variety of other instruments, such as the Ukulele, guitar, ektara and harmonica. But that's not where she wants to stop. She also aspires to one day be able to play the mandolin, the grand piano as well as the sarod and the drum! We, at Edugraph wish Rajvi the very best in her journey!
