The Post Graduate and Research Department of Biotechnology, St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata held its first International Symposium on Biotechnology on the 12th and 13th of October, 2023, under the leadership of Principal, Rev. Dr. Dominic Savio, SJ and Dr. Jhimli Dasgupta, Head of the Department.

The two-day conference was graced by a number of eminent scientists from all over the country and beyond. The inaugural address was delivered by Rev. Father Dr. Dominic Savio SJ, Principal - St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata, after which there were insightful lectures by Dr. Partha Pratim Majumder (keynote speaker), Dr. Arun K Shukla, Dr. Sangram Bagh and Dr. Gautam Sethi on 12th October. On 13th October, engaging lectures were delivered by Dr. Utpal Nath, Dr. Souvik Mukherjee, Dr. Marc Graille, and Dr. Ranjan Sen.

A breathtaking cultural program, directed by Dr. Priyanka De, Assistant Professor, Postgraduate and Research Department of Biotechnology, St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata, brought hope and optimism with it on the first day.

In addition to the enlightening plenary lectures, there were oral presentations and poster presentations by students, research scholars and professors from various prestigious institutions across the country. These were judged by Dr. Sangram Bagh, Dr. Urmi Chatterji, Dr. Souvik Mukherjee, and Dr. Geetanjali Sundaram.

Dr. Sayak Ganguli, Assistant Professor, Postgraduate and Research Department of Biotechnology, St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata was the convener of the event along with Dr. Arindam Bakshi and Dr. Ditipriya Hazra, Assistant Professors of the Department, who served as the co-convenors of the event. The treasurer was Dr. Souvik Roy, Assistant Professor, Postgraduate and Research Department of Biotechnology, St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata.
