Under the banner of the Jadavpur University Sociology Consortium, the Department of Sociology is set to host Lifeworld '24, a two-day academic conclave designed to be a dynamic space for intellectual exploration. Happening on September 19 and 20, 2024, at the Jadavpur University main campus, this flagship event aims to delve into the complex interplay between individuals and their social environments.
With the theme ‘Spaces and Senses: The Idea of India,’ Lifeworld '24 will offer a platform for participants to explore lived experiences within Indian society. Through a range of discussions, debates, film screenings, and creative expressions, the event will highlight how sensory experiences are shaped by social, political, and cultural dimensions, thus influencing identity, power, and politics.
Day 1 will include thought-provoking paper presentations, an engaging debate titled Turn the Table, a panel discussion, and a special film screening, followed by a discussion with the directors. The screening promises to unveil a significant film, shedding light on communalism in India. Day 2 will focus on creative submissions, additional paper presentations, and a second-panel discussion.
One of the highlights of the event is the Dialogue Deck, where eminent scholars, researchers, and professionals from diverse fields will gather to share insights and engage critically with the theme.
From showcasing dissent through academic papers to expressing perspectives through dance, drama, and poetry, Lifeworld '24 promises to be a rich intellectual and creative experience.
