Mastering the art of Bharatanatyam requires a great deal of dedication, commitment and passion to bring out the best expressions and movements. Being one of the oldest dance forms in India, it not only requires rigorous practice but also minute attention to detail on facial expressions, wrist movements, and footwork. Our talented under 18 winner Agniva Biswas masters this dance form like no other.
Practising since a young age when asked about his win Agniva added “This was for the very first time I took part in any award show hosted by the Telegraph. I clearly remember when on the 11 December I received a call to go for a shoot, I was nervous but reaching there I was totally at ease as people were very down to earth and humble. On the final event day when I received an award and got to know I was one of the top 18 winners I was totally mesmerised and felt over the top of the world. Overall it was an amazing experience to be a part of such a great initiative by The Telegraph Online Edugraph.”
A Bharatanatyam CCRT Scholarship holder, Agniva has won awards in the Rabindra Nritya and other Bharatanatyam categories. He has also won a silver medal at the All Bengal Dance Competition besides performing at major events such as Maya Puri Dance Festival 2021 in Puri and Agomoni Dance Festival 2021 in Kolkata.
Highlighting his connection with Bharatanatyam dance form, Agniva further added “For me dance is the hidden language of my soul, it is just like breathing and I don't think I can think of anything without dancing. I have been learning Bharatnatyam under the able guidance of my teachers since the age of 10. I have also received scholarships from the Nehru Children’s Museum and other awards. I feel this 18 under 18 win has greatly boosted my confidence and in future I also wish to represent this beautiful dance form at the international level.”
As a dance form Bharatnatyam has healing powers that help its learners in building the mind-body connection allowing them to stay focused at their long term goals “Besides dancing I also want to be a lawyer besides showcasing the my larger audience the impact this dance form has on the world and me” concluded Agniva.
