Abacus Institute of Engineering and Management, a joint venture of JIS Group and Techno India Group, had organised the second edition of its Technical Fest, PROXEC 2.0, co-sponsored by The Telegraph Edugraph, City Network Mogra and Dynamic Marketing, from 4th October to 6th October, 2023. The event was held at the college campus at Mogra, Hooghly, W.B. Over 400 Students from various engineering colleges and schools of West Bengal had participated in the event. The panel of guests included heads of some of the major technical societies of India, which is a first time ever in West Bengal. The list of honourable guests included Prof. Saradindu Panda (Chief Guest, Principal of SurTech), Prof. Debasis De (Professor, Computer Science and Technology Department, MAKAUT, President, CSI Kolkata Chapter), Dr. Jyotisekhar Banerjee (CSI Kolkata Chapter and Secretary cum treasurer ISTE, West Bengal Section), Dr. Koushik Bhattacharya, (CEO, M/s Rainbow Infrastructure) and others.

On 4 October 2023, PROXEC 2.0 started with an intra-college Poster Presentation Competition. Over 70 posters on various topics were displayed by students from different departments of the institute. The topics included different technical know-hows, socio-ecological aspects of technologies, emerging technological trends etc. The posters were analysed and judged by Mr. Shounak Bandopadhyay (Assistant Registrar, AIEM), Mr. Sumangal Bhaumik (Assistant Professor, Electrical Engineering Department) and Mr. Sumit Banerjee (Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering Department).

The next day's event was initiated on 5 October, with lamp lighting by all the honourable guests, followed by a short speech of the Principal of the institute, Dr. Jinia Datta. Afterwards, all the guests were felicitated by the Principal, Dr. Jinia Datta and the Registrar of the institute, Mr. Devmalya Banerjee. All the judges for the event were then welcomed to the stage and were felicitated. Dr. Raju Basak (Honorary Secretary, WBSC, IEI), Mr. Suvendu Ghosh (Former Assistant Engineer, PWD), Mr. Anirbit Sengupta (Assistant Professor, ECE, SurTech), Dr. Sandip Ghosh (Director, IQAC), Dr. Aniruddha Nag (Manager, Tata Air India, Secretary, IETE, West Bengal, Ex-Chairman CSI Kolkata Chapter) and Prof. Soumyabrata Saha (HoD, Information Technology Department, JISCE, Kalyani) had kindly consented to be in the panel of judges.

Students from various Engineering colleges, Diploma colleges and schools had demonstrated their hand-made projects. Students were grouped on the basis of the nature of their projects. Students from the Computer Science Engineering Department showcased their creativity in the form of games and self- developed apps such as ‘3D Book by AR’, ‘PC Voice Assistant’ etc., while the students from Mechanical Engineering Department displayed projects like ‘Smart Dustbin’, ‘Automatic Floor Cleaner’ etc. Students from the Electrical Engineering Department focused on creating low-cost energy generation and transmission systems like ‘Solar UPS’, ‘Arduino Based Smart Farming’ etc. Students from Electronics and Communication Department applied Bluetooth Technology and AI to show their exhibits whilst different efficient construction strategies were shown by the students from Civil Engineering department. The event was indeed an amalgamation of creativity and Science.

The prize distribution ceremony was held on 6th October 2023, in the presence of eminent personalities. Winners were declared in the category of B, Tech. projects and Diploma projects. Winners were awarded with an amount of ₹5,000, subsequently the 1st Runners up were awarded ₹ 3,000 and 2nd Runners up were awarded ₹2,000, sponsored by Idea-O-Meter, an initiative of JIS Group. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd position winners of the Poster Presentation Competition were awarded with Rs 700, Rs 500 and Rs 300, respectively.

Depesh Dhanapati, Sudipta Sadhukhan and Saptadipa Das, from the Department of Electrical Engineering had received the first position in the Poster Presentation Competition. Md. Shah Faisal, Aditya Kumar Sharma, Uday Mahata had received the second position while Surya Prasad, Ayush Kumar Ratan and Md. Nafish Alam had received the third position in the event. Afterwards, Winner,1st Runners up and Second Runners up of the project competition from both Diploma and B.Tech. categories were declared. In the Diploma section, the winners were Amir Mondal, Surajit Rana, Moupali Kar from Technique Polytechnic Institute with project entitled ‘Smart Complex’, the First Runners up were Sayan Ghosh, Biswajit De, Akash Das from Supreme Knowledge Foundation with project entitled ‘Bluetooth Controlled Car with Arduino’ and the Second Runners up were Somnath Samanta, Soumen Maity, Monimoy Pramanick from Abacus Institute of Engineering and Management with project ‘Plastoscope’.

In the B. Tech. category, the winners were Saikat Majumdar, Jayita Mondal with a project titled ‘3D Book by AR’ from Abacus Institute of Engineering and Management. The First Runners up position was claimed by Anshit Mukherjee, Disha Adhikary and Chandana Das with project titled ‘Virtual Mouse’ from Abacus Institute of Engineering and Management and the Second Runners up were Partha Barman, Samanay Dey and Rithick Sarkar from Abacus Institute of Engineering and Management with project titled ‘IoT Based Smart Farming’. Project titled ‘Historical Journney of Chandrayaan 3 to the Moon’ by Anuska Das, Samata Das and Rupsha Saha from Balagarh High School was appreciated very much by all the judges and the project was awarded with a Special Achievement Prize.

The event was declared successful by all the guests and participants. Abacus Institute of Engineering and Management promised to arrange the program again in the coming years regularly, to which a huge positive response was received from the participants.
