Over 3.25 lakh students have been admitted to the first phase of undergraduate courses in colleges and universities across the state through the newly launched WB centralised admission portal.
A total of 5,27,781 students had applied for the first phase, against 4,22,245 available seats. By the end of the first phase, over 70% of the allocated seats had been filled, with the commerce stream being the most popular choice.
The first phase of admissions was scheduled to end on Thursday, July 18, but it was extended by one day to July 19 to accommodate any last-minute applications. As of yesterday, 70% of the applicants had already secured admission to their preferred colleges and courses.
The West Bengal Department of Higher Education anticipates that around 40,000 to 45,000 more students will register for admission during the extended 24-hour period.
