The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) has officially rescheduled the Provincial Civil Services (PCS) preliminary exam 2024 to December 22, 2024. The exam will be conducted in two shifts (9.30 AM to 11.30 AM and 2.30 PM to 4.30 PM).
Originally planned for December 7 and December 8, 2024, the decision to shift the exam to a single day follows a wave of intense protests by aspirants, who raised concerns about the two-day format and the use of a normalisation process in candidate selection.
The Commission’s Deputy Secretary, Onkar Nath Singh, confirmed that the PCS prelims would be conducted on the old pattern in response to demands from candidates protesting outside the UPPSC headquarters in Prayagraj. Their primary grievances centered around the extended examination schedule and potential normalisation issues.
Committee to Review RO/ARO Exams
In addition to rescheduling the PCS exam, UPPSC announced a postponement of the Review Officer (RO) and Assistant Review Officer (ARO) exams. To address aspirants’ concerns and ensure transparency and fairness, the Commission will establish a committee tasked with reviewing and providing recommendations on these exams. The dates for the rescheduled RO/ARO exams will be announced following the committee's report.
